Matthew 13:22 “As for what was sown on among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches chose the word, and it proves unfruitful.” 

Isaiah 35:1 “..and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose.”

   The phrase “every rose has its thorns” has been used time and time again. But what can this really mean for us as children of God? The obvious answer is that every beautiful thing has its issues, which is true, but I think it goes deeper than that. This phrase suggests that there isn’t another option, that no matter what, every beautiful thing comes with some sort of baggage. God doesn’t reluctantly accept us, despite our thorns. He chooses us, loves us, and uses even our roughest edges to teach and transform us. Our thorns (mistakes, regrets, and struggles) don’t disqualify us from His love.

  Through His grace, the desert blooms. The thorns become part of the story, not the end of it.
